Three Films are going to Cannes
Okay it’s not exactly “Cannes” Cannes, cause that already happened in May. But three student films have been selected by Africa USA International Film Festival to screen at the Cinema des Arcades in Cannes, France starting August 7th.
They have alluded to a possible award or maybe even two, so we’re excited about the opportunity. Last year we had considered the idea of trying to get a student out to Los Angeles for this same opportunity (they move around for the festival) but the visa processing time was too lengthy.
But the process for a visa into France from SA is supposedly closer to 15 days.
Of course it’s never that easy — first we have to get a passport (√) - book flights (√) - book accommodation (√) — and then get an appointment for the visa. Please pray with us that the process will move quickly so that we can get the visa back in time.
I know, how does one do all those things without knowing you have the visa? But that’s the way it is…
Here’s a rough breakdown of what this would cost for Onke to get this once in a lifetime opportunity (we wish Michelle could go too, but her Zimbabwean passport/visa status sadly won’t allow it).
- Flights = $1500
- Accommodation = $1000
- Transportation and Meals - $1000
- Visas / Passport - $250
So while $3750 is a significant amount of money — I’m hoping you’ll consider a gift right now to help us make this dream a reality.
If all goes according to plan, Onke will fly to Nice, France on August 6th. Walk a red carpet on the evening of the 7th. Show his film and do a Q&A on August 9th. And attend the awards evening on the 12th.
Any recommendations of other fun things he has to try while at Cannes — please let us know. We would like to arrange a few fun things as we know he’s likely to be very conservative with the money given.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
